After the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Minnesota Timberwolves last night (3/10), Anthony Davis issued a strong statement to NBA reporters.

Davis said he and his Lakers teammates “feel like it’s tough for anybody to beat us in a seven-game series.”

“I think we’re hitting our stride right now,” Davis said. “We’ve had some really good wins. … We’re just trying to keep going, keep pushing, knowing that just like last year, all we got to do is get in. We feel like it’s tough for anybody to beat us in a seven-game series. … We like our chances against anybody at that point.”

The Lakers are 36-30 on the season. They are six games above .500 for the first time since 2020-21.

Davis and Co. can’t beat the Denver Nuggets, but they have shown they can compete with other elite teams. The Lakers have beaten the Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers, Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Clippers, Milwaukee Bucks, Timberwolves, New Orleans Pelicans, New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder and Phoenix Suns this season.

“We still got guys out, but we’re confident in our group,” Davis said. “We know that we can line up against anybody and beat them if we play the right way. If we don’t, then we can line up against anybody and lose. But I think right now, playing against these top teams, it’s gonna help us later on come playoff time. It was a good test for us to kind of tighten up screws and figure out what we need to do.”

Davis is averaging 24.8 points, 12.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.2 steals and 2.5 blocks this season while shooting 55.5% from the field and 81.2% from the free-throw line. He’s 10th in the NBA in points, 16th in points per game, third in rebounds, third in rebounds per game, fourth in blocks and fifth in blocks per game.

The Lakers got swept by the Nuggets in the 2023 Western Conference Finals. Denver is the only team Los Angeles can’t figure out.
