The interest is real. The paths are not.
As previously reported, the Hawks and Raptors are among the teams keeping tabs on Anthony Davis. Whether that interest turns into anything actionable is another matter.
Atlanta’s situation comes with a catch. The Hawks aren’t eager to absorb Davis’ contract unless Trae Young is moved, and Young doesn’t appeal to the Mavericks, according to The Athletic’s Christian Clark and Sam Amick. That stalls things quickly.
Toronto has its own complications. Any deal would require Dallas to take back significant multiyear money, something the Mavericks have shown little appetite for as they weigh flexibility against upside.
Golden State still lingers on the periphery. As Amick noted last week, the door isn’t fully shut on a Warriors pursuit. But it’s barely cracked. The Warriors remain firmly opposed to including either Jimmy Butler or Draymond Green, leaving no clean way to make the salaries work.
The Bucks have also conveyed interest, league sources say, though that avenue appears even narrower. Milwaukee lacks both the assets and the matching contracts to realistically compete in a Davis sweepstakes.
So the board looks busy. Calls are happening. Names are circulating.
But at the moment, everything runs into the same wall. Interest without alignment. Conversations without traction.
