Anthony Davis thought Luka Doncic trade was a ‘joke’ at first

At first, Anthony Davis didn’t believe it. Couldn’t believe it, really.

When his agent told him he’d been traded to the Mavericks in a deal involving Luka Doncic, Davis thought it was a prank.

“I was like, the f— out of here,” Davis said, via HoopsHype. “I said who they gonna trade me for? Luka Doncic?”

Turns out… yeah. Even as former Mavericks GM Nico Harrison called, Davis still wasn’t buying it.

“I’m like, ‘Alright, Rich and Nico, y’all playing a joke,” Davis said.

It took a little convincing. Davis said he checked social media, waited for confirmation, and only then did it start to sink in.

“Now I’m like… what the f— just happened?” he said.

That’s when it hit. The trade was real. And everything changed. 

Of course, it changes again this February, when Davis was sent packing from the Mavericks to the Wizards. That too, he has said, was a bit of a surprise.
