The Timberwolves and shooting guard Anthony Edwards have agreed to a five-year contract extension, agents Bill Duffy and Joe Branch told Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Edwards was the No. 1 overall selection in the 2020 NBA Draft and erupted last season, averaging 24.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.4 assists on way to his first All-Star Game.
Minnesota returned to the playoffs for the second straight season, but again lost in the first round, this time to the eventual champion Nuggets.
Per Wojnarowski: “Edwards is the only NBA player with 1,500 points and 100 steals in each of the past two seasons, according to ESPN Stats and Information research.”
He becomes the latest in a long line of players to have signed extensions this summer. We have more details on the others at this link.
“I’m humbled, appreciative and excited to remain in Minnesota as part of this incredible Timberwolves organization,” Edwards said in a statement. “It’s amazing to see where hard work can take you.”
