Assistant coach Jay Larranaga has decided to remain with Tyronn Lue and the Clippers, as opposed to re-join the Celtics, per Chris Mannix of SI.com.
The Celtics are considering adding an assistant amid the Ime Udoka drama and received permission to interview Larranaga this week.
Larranaga, 47, was an assistant under former Celtics coach and current team president Brad Stevens from 2012-21. He joined Lue’s staff with the Clippers ahead of last season.
Boston will be coached by interim head coach Joe Mazzulla, filling in for Udoka, who has been suspended for the season for an inappropriate relationship with a female employee.
Mazzulla, 34, is a former college player at West Virginia and has been an assistant with the Celtics since 2019. Before that, he coached Division II Fairmont State in West Virginia.
The Celtics finished 51-31 last season and advanced to the Finals, where they lost to the Warriors in six games.
