It is still to be determined when guard/forward Ben Simmons will make his debut with the Nets, coach Steve Nash told reporters.
But when Simmons finally does, Nash predicts things could get fun.
“Ben is such a a unique talent,” Nash said. “His brilliance is he does so many things well on the basketball court — it’s going to be fun putting him in our program and finding his best level.”
Simmons was acquired in the blockbuster trade with the 76ers, which send star guard James Harden to Philadelphia. Simmons has yet to appear in a game, staying sidelined while and the 76ers sought out a trade.
Simmons was reportedly happy with the trade, leading some to believe his return is imminent. But as Adam Zagoria of Forbes reported, Simmons’ debut will be a “joint decision” between Simmons and the 76ers’ performance staff.
“We’ve got to work to do to get him back to play, but it’s a great step in right direction,” Simmons’ agent, Rich Paul, told ESPN of the trade.
Also, ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne reported that the plan is for Simmons to continue to work with his therapist and get mentally ready to play, just as he was doing with the 76ers.
As an aside, the Nets forward Kevin Durant is expected to return from an MCL sprain by the end of the month.
So the hope, it seems, is that Simmons, Durant and point guard Kyrie Irving will all be available when it means the most — for the playoffs.
