One NBA analyst is proposing that the Detroit Pistons acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks this offseason.
Antetokounmpo is reportedly open-minded about leaving the Bucks for the first time in his career.
Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report proposed that the Pistons trade Jaden Ivey, Ausar Thompson, Jalen Duren, a 2026 first-round pick, a 2028 first-round pick, a 2030 first-round pick and a 2032 first-round pick to the Bucks for Antetokounmpo, who doesn’t have a no-trade clause in his contract.
“Detroit can surrender a ready-made rebuild core with Jaden Ivey, Ausar Thompson and Jalen Duren. It could flip Tobias Harris in a subsequent trade. And of course, the Pistons can offer a good haul of draft picks, too,” Bailey wrote. “If Milwaukee moves Giannis, it should be for a deal that fires up a new era. And this one would do exactly that.
“As for Detroit, there would be some work to do to flesh out the roster, but Giannis and Cade Cunningham would be a dynamic top two good enough to compete for a title.”
The Pistons made the playoffs this year for the first time since 2019. They lost to the New York Knicks in the first round in six games.
Meanwhile, the Bucks lost to the Indiana Pacers in the first round in five games. Milwaukee has won just one postseason series since winning the 2021 championship against the Phoenix Suns in six games.
The Bucks signed Antetokounmpo to a three-year, $175 million extension in October 2023. Antetokounmpo is a two-time MVP, a one-time Finals MVP, a one-time Defensive Player of the Year and a nine-time All-Star. He has spent his entire career with the Bucks.
A future Hall of Famer, Antetokounmpo has career averages of 23.9 points, 9.9 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.2 blocks.
The Greek Freak put up 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 0.9 steals and 1.2 blocks per game for the Bucks this season.
