It’s been said that Bronny James will only conduct pre-draft workouts with the Los Angeles Lakers and Phonix Suns. But maybe not, too, agent Rich Paul told Marc Stein of The Stein Line.
James has already worked out for the Suns, by the way, as we relayed here. He looked good and left a strong first impression, per Duane Rankin of the Arizona Republic.
The Lakers would be the other natural spot, given that’s the team for which LeBron James — Bronny’s superstar father — already plays.
But again, perhaps there are other spots that make sense.
“Bronny’s agent Rich Paul told The Stein Line that there are ‘a few more’ invites under consideration they are still evaluating for potential workouts,” Stein wrote. “James, who turns 20 in October, is projected to be a second-round pick on Day 2 of the draft later this month on June 27.”
Hoops Wire sources predicted that the Cleveland Cavaliers and New York Knicks could be among the other teams for which Bronny might work out ahead of the draft.
Meanwhile, Hoops Wire projects James to be drafted No. 55 overall by the Lakers.
James is far from the best prospect entering the draft, but he is undoubtedly the biggest name. He averaged just 4.8 points in his lone college season as a freshman at USC after suffering a heart scare.
Nonetheless, scouts who have spoken to Hoops Wire love his upside.
For the record, Paul has already told Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report that Bronny won’t be signing a two-way contract — despite the fact most view him as a late second-round prospect.
“Bronny’s (draft) range is wide,” Paul told ESPN. “He’s a really good prospect who has a lot of room for growth. It only takes one team. I don’t care where that team is — it can be No. 1 or 58 — (but) I do care about the plan, the development. The team’s strategy, the opportunity and the financial commitment. That’s why I’m not doing a two-way deal. Every team understands that.”
