Bucks assistant Darvin Ham may be in the lead to become the Lakers’ next coach, per Shams Charania and Sam Amick of The Athletic.
Ham is one of three finalists for the job, per reports, along with former Trail Blazers coach Terry Stotts and ex-Nets coach and current Clippers assistant Kenny Atkinson. Of the three, Ham is the only one with no head-coaching experience.
Ham is also the only one with a championship ring, having won a title under Mike Budenholzer with the Bucks last season. He has worked with Budenholzer since 2014, beginning with the Hawks.
Along with that experience, Ham played in the NBA from 1994-2005 with six teams.
“Los Angeles has prioritized a coach who can command respect and will have authority in the locker room. Ham is known to have great relationships with players, and he has a no-nonsense style,” RealGM wrote.
The Lakers are looking to replace Frank Vogel, fired after three seasons.
Ham is also said to be a strong candidate for the Hornets’ vacancy.
