The Bucks exhaled a little after Tuesday’s win over the East-leading Pistons, with head coach Doc Rivers saying the team does not believe Giannis Antetokounmpo suffered an Achilles injury.
Antetokounmpo exited after only three minutes, grabbing at his lower leg before limping to the bench and then to the locker room.
It looked like a non-contact scare in real time, but Rivers pushed back on that narrative and said there was more going on in the play.
“I thought the bump, if you watch, the bump drive, that’s what threw him off balance,” Rivers told reporters. “He got bumped and then somebody landed on top of him.
“Then it looked like no one was around, but I thought it was the bump that threw him off balance.”
Antetokounmpo underwent an MRI, according to The Athletic’s Eric Nehm. Milwaukee has not released an official diagnosis or timeline yet.
Even without their superstar, the Bucks played one of their sharpest games of the season and moved to 10-13.
But the bigger story will be the next medical update on Antetokounmpo, whose availability continues to hang over everything Milwaukee hopes to build this season.
The Bucks are expected to provide more details soon.
