Bucks forward Khris Middleton underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee following the season, though he is expected to return to the court next month, per Shams Charania and Eric Nehm of The Athletic.
This marks the second surgery for Middleton in two offseasons. Last year, he underwent wrist surgery that sidelined him for the first 20 games. Again, this surgery is considered minor.
Still, Middleton had to deal with it during the end of the regular season and part of the playoffs, it seems.
“I mean, it’s nothing too crazy,” Middleton said in mid-January, via Charania and Nehm. “It’s just kind of what I’ve dealt with every summer ramping back up for the season. Just getting my knee back accustomed to running, jumping, the force, the contact after being off for a long period of time.
“I know it’s kind of vague, but the truth of it is that’s all it was. Just the swelling and all of that, we couldn’t get it to go away. My leg just wasn’t strong enough or conditioned enough to withstand it.”
Middleton, 31, has a player option on his contract worth $40 million. He averaged 15.1 points, 4.2 rebounds and 4.9 assists in 33 games this past season.
Milwaukee finished with the NBA’s best regular-season record (54-28) but lost to the Heat in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs. Coach Mike Budenholzer was then replaced with former Raptors assistant Adrian Griffin. We have Griffin’s thoughts on the team here.
