Cam Thomas has his new home.
Thomas has officially signed with the Bucks, the team announced. The deal covers the remainder of the season, according to The Athletic’s Eric Nehm.
“I picked Milwaukee because they wanted me,” Thomas told Andscape’s Marc J. Spears. “They told me they’ve been interested for years now.
“It’s good to have this opportunity come to fruition, and I’m just hoping to meet everybody and contribute as soon as possible.”
Thomas became available after being waived by the Nets when no trade materialized before the deadline.
That outcome was by design. Thomas and his camp were hoping for the chance to choose his next stop.
“Super excited, ready to actually help and contribute,” he said. “My next team is getting elite scoring, good play-making and a good combo guard.”
Milwaukee had been connected to Thomas for weeks. HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto reported the Bucks’ interest well before the deadline, with Cleveland also checking in before pivoting elsewhere.
Thomas, 24, led Brooklyn in scoring in each of the past two seasons but was limited by hamstring issues.
In 24 games this year, he averaged 15.6 points while shooting just under 40 percent from the field.
The Bucks had an open roster spot and didn’t need to make a corresponding move. For Milwaukee, this is a low-risk swing on scoring upside.
