Bulls guard Coby White has tested positive for COVID-19 and will be out an undetermined amount of time, coach Billy Donovan told reporters, via Darnell Mayberry of The Athletic.
Donovan said White will be out for at least the Bulls’ upcoming two-game trip against the Knicks (Thursday) and Nets (Saturday).
Of course, White very well could miss more time than that. Per NBA rules, a player who tests positive for the virus has to sit out for at least 10 days or return two negative tests 24 hours apart before being cleared to return.
White, 21, is 6-foot-5 and missed the early part of the season after undergoing shoulder surgery. In nine games, the third-year man is averaging career-lows of 6.1 points and 1.3 assists. He averaged 15.1 points last season.
“Bulls center Nikola Vucevic also contracted the coronavirus this season and missed seven games,” noted Luke Adams of Hoops Rumors. “If White follows a similar timeline, he should be back in action before Christmas. Alex Caruso, Ayo Dosunmu, and Javonte Green are among the candidates for increased minutes with White sidelined.”
