The Chicago Bulls have reached agreement on a contract with forward E.J. Liddell, per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
The deal is an Exhibit 10 contract for training camp, sources told Hoops Wire. He become the Bulls’ third veteran camp signee, joining wing Talen Horton-Tucker (full story) and Kenneth Lofton Jr. (full story) over the past few weeks.
Liddell was recently waived by the Phoenix Suns after an offseason trade from the Atlanta Hawks (for forward David Roddy). He was traded to the Hawks from the New Orleans Pelicans early in the offseason as part of the deal involving guard Dejounte Murray.
Liddell, 23, is 6-foot-7 and missed his entire rookie season following a major knee injury. He appeared in just eight games with the Pelicans last season — though he had a nice run with the Birmingham Squadron of the G League, averaging 17.6 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.9 blocks.
The Bulls are undergoing some serious roster construction, it seems, after wing DeMar DeRozan opted for a sign-and-trade that sent him to the Sacramento Kings. Chicago also traded guard Alex Caruso to the Oklahoma City Thunder for guard Josh Giddey.
Along with all that, they reportedly continue to seek trade suitors for guard Zach LaVine — though to no avail — and also perhaps center Nikola Vucevic.
The Bulls have 15 players under standard contracts and an available two-way spot.
An Exhibit 10 contract is a non-guaranteed minimum-salary deal. It doesn’t count toward a team’s cap unless the player makes the final roster. It also can be converted to a two-way deal before the season begins or mean guaranteed money if a player is waived and then stays on the G League club for at least 60 days.
