Things didn’t go anywhere close to as hoped for the Bulls in their season-opening home loss to the Thunder.
So the players attempted to hash it out in a postgame meeting without coach Billy Donovan, he told reporters, via Julia Poe of the Chicago Tribune.
Donovan made it clear that things never got out of hand — just that there was passion in the players’ voices.
“It’s not like they were screaming at each other,” Donovan said, via Poe.
Guard Zach LaVine and center Nikola Vucevic described the hashing-it-out session as productive.
“I don’t feel like we played with enough heart, and that’s on us,” LaVine said. “It’s a terrible way to come out to start the season. It’s unacceptable.
”Guys want to win. You put up a game like this in Game 1, you’re going to have some conversations. Guys are frustrated and you should be. Good thing, it just sucks to have it happen in Game 1.”
Vucevic described the meeting as necessary.
“It was just regular discussions of what needs to be done,” he said. “A lot of guys said a lot of good things, things that needed to be said. I think we can really use this to learn and change some things that we need to change. There was nothing crazy, no fighting and none of that. It’s really constructive, I think.”
