The Chicago Bulls intend to sign forward/center Kenneth Lofton Jr. to a one-year contract, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Lofton, 21, was waived by the Utah Jazz at the end of last month after appearing in four games with the team, averaging 13.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 4.8 assists. He signed a two-way contract with the Philadelphia 76ers in late December after being waived by the Memphis Grizzlies, appearing in two games with the Sixers (before being waived on March 1).
Overall he appeared in 17 games last season, his second in the NBA, averaging 2.4 points and 1.1 rebounds. He played in 24 games as a rookie and averaged 5.0 points and 2.1 boards.
As it stands, the Bulls have 14 players on guaranteed deals, meaning they still have a spot available. That could certainly go to Lofton depending, of course, on how he fares in training camp and the preseason.
Chicago also has a two-way slot available. Lofton could be eligible for that as well, provided his contract includes Exhibit 10 language.
In related news, the Bulls are said to be still trying to trade guard Zach LaVine and center Nikola Vucevic.
Of course, LaVine and the Bulls reportedly have been looking to part ways for nearly a year. But sadly for both parties, no one appears willing to add anything of substance for LaVine, a former All-Star. Same goes for Vucevic, although his name only recently surfaced in trade rumors.
The relationship between LaVine and the Bulls has been described as strained.
