Bulls president and CEO Michael Reinsdorf offered additional clarity on the team’s direction following its front office shakeup, addressing both Billy Donovan’s future and what Chicago is seeking in its next lead executive, via K.C. Johnson of CHSN and Joel Lorenzi of The Athletic.
Reinsdorf pushed back on the idea that Arturas Karnisovas and Marc Eversley had received contract extensions prior to their dismissals.

“It’s simply not true,” he said, adding that the organization does not publicly discuss contract lengths.
Reinsdorf made it clear he wants Donovan to remain in place as head coach — and potentially take on an even larger role.
“I’ll probably push Billy to be more involved,” Reinsdorf said, noting he would be open to discussing a front office-style position similar to Brad Stevens’ role in Boston if Donovan were interested.
He also suggested that Donovan’s presence will be a factor in the team’s hiring process.
“If I interview someone and they’re not sold on Billy… then they’re probably not the right candidate for us,” Reinsdorf said, citing Donovan’s résumé and track record.
Michael Reinsdorf, asked about the concept of rebuilding and the mandates of the next candidate: “We want to win. But we don’t want to win if it’s not sustainable.”

Front Office Search
As for the team’s next president of basketball operations, Reinsdorf said he’s seeking a decisive, process-driven leader who communicates effectively.
He acknowledged that communication hasn’t always been an organizational strength and indicated that trait will be a priority in the next hire. He also emphasized the importance of bringing in someone confident in their personnel decisions and unafraid to act.
Bulls Enter Transition
As previously reported, Chicago dismissed Karnisovas and Eversley after six seasons that produced a 224-254 record.
Donovan, hired in 2020, has compiled an identical regular-season mark (224-254) to go along with a 1-4 playoff record.
The Bulls are expected to enter the offseason with a lottery pick and significant cap space, while building around a younger core led by Josh Giddey and Matas Buzelis.
Bottom line? With leadership changes underway and Donovan’s future a key piece of the puzzle, Chicago’s next steps will define the direction of the franchise.
