The Chicago Bulls have officially signed guard/forward Talen Horton-Tucker, according to the RealGM transactions log.
Per Keith Smith of Spotrac, Horton-Tucker will receive an Exhibit 10 training camp contract.
Horton-Tucker, 23, is 6-foot-4 and recently had his rights renounced by the Utah Jazz, in a move that was widely considered a formality. Along with the Jazz, he has spent time with the Los Angeles Lakers.
He averaged 10.1 points, 2.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 56 appearances with Utah last season, shooting 39.6% from the field and 33.0% from beyond the arc.
He reportedly drew only minimal interest as a free agent, and the fact he took a nonguaranteed deal with the Bulls seems to support that notion.
The Bulls are in the midst of an offseason of change and entering an uncertain future. They not only sent DeMar DeRozan to the Sacramento Kings in a three-team sign-and-trade arrangement, they also are said to be trying to trade Zach LaVine, and potentially Nikola Vucevic. They also sent Alex Caruso to the Oklahoma City Thunder for Josh Giddey.
With all that in mind, you’d think that Horton-Tucker has a shot to make the final cut, given that he’s a double-figure scorer and is known for playing hard and smart, as well as being a positive presence in the locker room. Chicago could use all of those things.
The Bulls currently have 14 players with guaranteed standard contracts entering camp, which is now less than a month away.
