Cavs To Sign Darius Brown II To Exhibit 10 Contract

The Cavaliers intend to sign undrafted Utah State guard Darius Brown II to an Exhibit 10 contract for training camp, sources told Hoops Wire.Darius Brown II, Utah State, Cavaliers, NBA

Brown is 6-foot-2 and primarily plays the point guard spot. He is expected to join a summer league roster that already includes the likes of first-round draft pick Jaylon Tyson (California) and undrafted big man DJ Burns (NC State). Other signees and current members of the roster are surely on the way for the Cavs’ summer run. They are defending Las Vegas champions, by the way.

Anyway, Brown averaged 12.3 points, 6.5 assists and 4.3 rebounds this past season with the Aggies, appearing in 35 games and shooting nearly 40 percent on 3-pointers. So at the college level, he could distribute and really shoot.

The Cavs could use a little of both of those things, but with Craig Porter Jr. already on the roster, Brown is likely G League material, presuming he makes it all. But like everyone else on the summer team and in camp, he’ll get a shot under new coach Kenny Atkinson.

Brown attended the same school as current Cavs guard Sam Merrill.

For the Cavaliers, the NBA Summer League tips off July 12 in Las Vegas, with the last possible game taking place 10 days later. The full summer league schedule can be found here. All games will be carried live on NBA TV.

An Exhibit 10 contract is a non-guaranteed minimum-salary deal. It doesn’t count toward a team’s cap unless the player makes the final roster. It also can be converted to a two-way deal before the season begins or mean guaranteed money if a player is waived and then stays on the G League club for at least 60 days.
