Cavaliers president of basketball operations Koby Altman and new head coach Kenny Atkinson are about ready to chat it up with reporters, explaining the team’s offseason moves and hopes for the future.
Yeah, it really is that time again — as Altman and Atkinson will hold their first press conference of the 2024-25 season on Friday at the Cavs’ practice facility in Independence, Ohio.
This is a change from past years, when the GM and coach would meet with the media on actual Media Day. For the Cavaliers, that day (Media Day) is Monday. For Altman and Atkinson, this year, that day is four days before Media Day.
Does it really matter? Well, of course not.
The Cavs haven’t said why Altman and Atkinson will be addressing reporters several days before the players, but then again, it doesn’t actually matter. Fans just want to hear what their favorite team’s leaders have to say about the state of things.
After Media Day, the entire organization will be at IMG Academy in Florida for the first week of training camp. The Cavaliers will then return home to resume practice and host the preseason opener on Oct. 8 vs. the Bulls.
But it all starts with Altman and Atkinson, in Independence, on Friday. The start of professional basketball in Cleveland is right around the corner yet again.
