Cavs To Sign Nae’Qwan Tomlin To Two-Way Deal; Additional Roster Move Needed

Big man Nae’Qwan Tomlin is set to sign a two-way contract with the Cavaliers, sources confirmed to Hoops Wire and as first reported by Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.Nae'Qwan Tomlin, Cavaliers, Cavs, NBA

The deal, which will cover two seasons, follows a 10-day contract that Tomlin has been on since last week.

Tomlin, 24, plays primarily power forward at 6-foot-10. He appeared in three games during his 10-day stint with Cleveland, averaging 3.3 points and 1.7 rebounds in 4.7 minutes per game.

He went undrafted out of Memphis before signing an Exhibit 10 contract with the Cavs in September. Tomlin then spent most of the season with the G League’s Cleveland Charge, where he averaged 15.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.5 blocks per game in 35 Tip-Off Tournament and regular season contests.

Tomlin’s 10-day contract expired on Saturday night, giving Cleveland an open spot on its standard roster.

But all three of the Cavs’ two-way slots are currently occupied, meaning the team will need to waive or promote one of Emoni Bates, Luke Travers, or JT Thor before Tomlin’s new deal can be finalized.

The Cavaliers have until March 4 to make the necessary moves to finalize Tomlin’s two-way contract.

“Just from a maturity level. I was very immature early on. It just helped build character,” Tomlin told Jackson Flickinger of Fear the Sword of his journey to the NBA “Even when I was at Kansas State transitioning to Memphis, everything was just life lessons. It’s made me who I am today.”

Cleveland (49-10) hosts the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday afternoon. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. EST.
