Reserve guard Ty Jerome didn’t practice Tuesday and seemingly stands a good chance to miss his fourth straight game when the Cavaliers host the New York Knicks Wednesday night.
Jerome has been out with what the team is calling left knee tendinitis. Cavs coach Kenny Atkinson confirmed to reporters that Jerome sat out practice.
Earlier this week, Atkinson said that he’s not concerned with Jerome’s injury.
“Definitely no,” Atkinson said ahead of Sunday’s win over the Los Angeles Clippers. “Ty’s just a little banged up.”
Jerome’s injury was officially changed from “left knee soreness” to “left knee tendinitis” before Sunday’s game. The latter could be considered a little more worrisome — though again, it is likely something that just needs extra rest.
Jerome is having a career season and is considered by many to be in the running for NBA Sixth Man of the Year honors. In 67 games, he’s averaging career-highs of 12.2 points, 50.9 percent shooting, 43.1 percent shooting on 3-pointers, and 1.1 steals. He missed all but the first two games last season, his first with the Cavs, after suffering a lingering foot injury.
This year, the Cavaliers (60-15) became the first team in the Eastern Conference to win 60 games, accomplishing the feat for just the third time in franchise history. This season also marks the first time they’ve done it without LeBron James on the team.
With seven games to go, they have a 93.7 percent chance of officially locking down the top seed in the Eastern Conference.
