Cavs Talk: Core Four, De’Andre Hunter, Adding Reinforcements, And Changes On Way?

It’s the NBA offseason for the Cavaliers, and some will tell you that may be the most important season of all — again.De'Andre Hunter, Cavaliers, Blazers, NBA

But after compiling a 64-18 record, Koby Altman and the front office are likely to trust this year’s body of work. And they should, as I suggest in my latest guest spot with Andy Baskin and Jeff Phelps on 92.3 The Fan. Give a listen here or in the player directly below.

While I think the Cavs are more likely than not to hang on to the majority of the roster, they do have some offseason business to handle. Their priority, it seems, is to bring back unrestricted free agent Ty Jerome. Altman also said he’s “hopeful” of not just bringing back Jerome, but Sam Merrill as well.

I get the sense that adding a playable backup center is another order of business. But the Cavs don’t necessarily need to do that before training camp. They can wait it out and see what the market has to offer well into next season.

Yes, this is a time for trade rumors, and there will undoubtedly be plenty surrounding your Cavaliers. But I think most of them will be just that — rumors. As I mentioned on the show, the Oklahoma City Thunder didn’t blow it up after last season, when they too lost in the second round of the playoffs.

They stayed the course and added some reinforcements, none of which would be considered “splashy.” I suspect that the Cavs are determined to try to do the same this summer.

  1. Come on Sam….OKC traded their starting 21 year old guard who averaged 12+ points, 6.5 rebounds, and 4-1/2 assists with a positive plus minus. Don’t act like they didn’t trade something significant after losing last year.
