The Cavaliers have found their man — or at least have filled their roster spot for the next 10 days. They’re doing it by signing undrafted rookie center Nae’Qwan Tomlin to a 10-day contract, as first relayed by HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto.
The Cavs had until Thursday afternoon to add another player, as they only had 13 roster spots filled. The NBA requires that you carry 14, though the league does offer a short grace period.
Tomlin went undrafted in the 2024 NBA Draft after finishing his college career at Memphis. Following the draft, he signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Cavaliers last September, securing the team’s G League rights. Since then, Tomlin has spent the 2024-25 season with the Cleveland Charge, the Cavaliers’ affiliate in the NBA G League.
In his 35 games with the Charge, Tomlin has posted solid numbers, averaging 15.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.5 blocks in 28.6 minutes per game. His shooting line stands at .545 from the field, .362 from beyond the arc, and .614 from the free-throw line.
Tomlin has been particularly impressive in recent weeks, scoring 20 or more points in six of his past seven games, including a 37-point performance against the Westchester Knicks on February 7.
The 24-year-old will earn $66,503 for his 10-day contract, which will cover the Cavs’ next five games. While it’s uncertain whether Tomlin will see significant playing time with the Cavaliers, he will be available as a potential depth option in the frontcourt.
After Tomlin’s 10-day deal expires, the Cavaliers will have the option to carry fewer than 14 players for up to two additional weeks, but they must maintain at least 14 players for the remainder of the season.
