The Cavaliers are headed south for training camp in their first season under new coach Kenny Atkinson. That would be Bradenton, Fla., the home of IMG Academy.
That first week of camp takes place Oct. 1-6. Media Day is set for Monday, Sept. 30, though the exact location is unknown.
It was originally scheduled for the Cleveland Clinic Courts practice facility in Independence, as rock band Aerosmith was scheduled for a concert that same night at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. But that concert has since been canceled. So Media Day may move there, though that is still TBD.
As for moving camp to Florida, well, why not?
“The city of Sarasota and IMG Academy in Bradenton is the perfect backdrop for our training camp this year,” Cavaliers president of basketball operations Koby Altman said in a release from the team. “This is a unique opportunity for us to utilize a world-class facility away from our usual environment, providing an excellent setting for building team chemistry and culture.
“We extend our gratitude to IMG Academy and the surrounding areas for their warm hospitality in hosting our organization. Their state-of-the-art facilities and supportive communities will be instrumental in helping us prepare for the upcoming season.”
Anyway, the Cavs haven’t made many changes beyond hiring Atkinson and signing forward JT Thor to a 10-day contract. Everything else about the roster is pretty much the same. We believe we offer more Cavs coverage than anyone here at Hoops Wire. You can check it all out on our Cavs page here.
“We can’t wait to welcome the Cavaliers to our beautiful coastal city,” Sarasota Mayor Liz Alpert said in the release. “We’re planning some exciting events for the players to interact with the Sarasota community, especially our youth and aspiring athletes. We want the Cavs to experience all that Sarasota has to offer, from our amazing, vibrant downtown to the cultural arts, beaches, and stunning sunsets. It certainly will be a fun, memorable week when the Cavs come to Sarasota.”
