J.B. Bickerstaff has been fired. What’s next for the Cavaliers?
Well, a whole lot, actually. They need to find a coach. They need to figure out the rest of the roster. They first need Donovan Mitchell to re-sign so that all those decisions will be made easier.
But we don’t know the order of anything right now. All we know is it’s the offseason and Cavaliers president of basketball operations Koby Altman has work to do.
And oh yeah, on top of everything else, the Cavs have to make a draft pick (No. 20 overall) in about a month. Altman has actually been busy preparing for that too.
Anyway, I discussed all that and way, way more in the latest 330 To Go Hoops Wire Live Show. You can watch it all right here …
Basically, even after the coaching change, the Cavs have a wildly busy offseason ahead.
As I mentioned in the video, there are multiple reports that if Mitchell does sign, the agent for Darius Garland will request a trade. That agent, Rich Paul, also represents LeBron James and many other stars. Apparently, Paul doesn’t view Garland as a fit next to Mitchell, and you have to believe Garland doesn’t think so, either.
Well, here’s a news flash — the Cavs probably already had plans to move on from Garland. They likely don’t need a nudge from Paul.
Beyond that, though, the Cavaliers probably shouldn’t go too nuts. They will have a new coach, and chances are, a new starting point guard. They made it to the Eastern Conference semifinals. They want to build on that, not tear it down. But again, more in the video above.
