The Cavaliers are signing former Kentucky guard Ashton Hagans to play for their summer league team, agent Daniel Hazan told Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.
Hagans, 22, is 6-foot-3 and went undrafted out of Kentucky in 2020. He then signed a two-way contract with the Timberwolves, appearing in two games before being waived in February 2021.
An injured ankle delayed his start to last season, but he eventually got healthy enough to appear in seven games with Raptors 905, Toronto’s G League affiliate.
An interesting Hagans fact: He is close friends with former No. 1 NFL Draft pick and current Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
While Hagans is joining the Cavs on a summer league deal, it is not believed to be an Exhibit 10 deal. So he will have to play his way into an invite in training camp.
An Exhibit 10 deal is a contract that counts toward the offseason roster limit of 20, but does not count toward the salary cap unless the player makes the team.
All NBA contracts can be finalized once the new league year begins in July. The Las Vegas summer league tips off July 7.
