The Cavaliers are making a couple of small changes to their coaching staff for the 2022-23 season, with assistant Mike Gerrity to become head coach of the G League’s Cleveland Charge, the team announced.
Dan Geriot, last year’s Charge coach, will move back into an assistant role under J.B. Bickerstaff with the Cavs.
“We are thrilled to have Mike become the newest head coach of the Charge,” said Charge GM Brendon Yu. “Mike has a plethora of experience at the NBA level serving in a variety of roles on staff, but really excels in player development. Mike also brings a unique perspective as a former ‘D League’ player himself. I’m really looking forward to working with him and having him apply his knowledge and experience to lead the Charge.”
Gerrity has been with the Cavs since 2014, first as a assistant video coordinator. He has also served as an assistant and in a player development role. He played college basketball at UNC Charlotte and USC.
“We are so excited to have Mike Gerrity lead the way as Head Coach of the Cleveland Charge,” Bickerstaff said. “There is no better person for this job and we have extreme confidence in his ability to develop players. We’ve seen the fruits of his labor with the Cavaliers and we expect the same commitment and dedication with the Charge.”
Meanwhile, prior to becoming Charge coach last season, Geriot served in various roles for the Cavs for six years, including season video coordinator during the 2015-16 season. He was an assistant under Bickerstaff first during the 2019-20 season. He played college basketball at Richmond.
The Cavs sill hold media day Sept. 26, with training camp slated to tip off the following day. They open the season Oct. 19 with a visit to the Raptors.
The Charge open the season Nov. 4 vs. the Motor City Cruise at Cleveland State’s Wolstein Center.
