Guard/forward Luke Travers has left the Perth Wildcats of Australia’s NBL after two seasons as a fully contracted player, the team announced last week.
Travers, 21, is 6-foot-7 and is expected to remain in the NBL after averaging 9.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.1 steals with the Wildcats in 2022-23. He has played more than 100 games for Perth.
Travers said achieving his NBA dreams and playing for the Cavs is a reason for the move, per Craig O’Donoghue of The West Australian News.
Travers was selected by the Cavs in the second round (No. 56 overall) of the 2022 NBA Draft, then played for the Cavs summer league team in July. In five games, he averaged 6.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.2 steals and 1.2 blocks.
He has also spent time with the Rockingham Flames and Cockburn Cougars.
The Wildcats finished 15-13 and in a three-way tie for fourth place in the NBL standings.
“While the club is obviously disappointed to receive this news, we respect his decision as a free agent and wish him the best for his future career,” the Wildcats said in a statement.
“The club will continue to focus on completing its roster with the opening of the free agency period.”
