Cavaliers rookie forward/center Evan Mobley is expected to make his return to the lineup for Saturday’s game vs. the Magic, via Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Mobley has been out since suffering a sprained elbow Nov. 15 vs. the Celtics. The Cavs (9-10) have lost four straight in his absence and five straight overall.
Mobley, 20, is 7-foot-0 and was the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. He recently became the fastest in franchise history to reach 200 points and 100 rebounds.
For the season, he carries averages of 14.6 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists. He has also been a major difference-maker on defense and overall great fit next to starting center Jarrett Allen.
“I get more and more comfortable every game,” Mobley said just before suffering the injury. “Me and the coaches have been working a lot in the post as well as 3-point shooting.”
He has been showing obvious progress at practice this past week, just in shooting workouts alone.
“You’re watching him learn on the fly, and not only learn, but apply,” coach J.B. Bickerstaff recently said. “I think that’s the thing that’s unique is, in a one or two-game span, he can apply the things that he’s learned. A lot of times, it takes guys years to figure it out.”
After hosting the Magic, the Cavs go back on the road to face the Mavericks (Monday) and Heat (Wednesday).
Rewriting the record books… again.
