Cavs’ Evan Mobley Will Earn Extra $45 Million If He Wins DPOY Or Makes All-NBA Team

The Cleveland Cavaliers signed Evan Mobley to a five-year, $224 million extension in 2024. The deal includes designated rookie language, so the contract could be worth 27.5% or 30% of the cap.

If Mobley wins the Defensive Player of the Year Award or makes one of the three All-NBA teams this year, he will earn an extra $45 million.

“Definitely, it was a goal of mine coming into this year, and I mean, I put all the work in, so it’s a big day,” Mobley said, via The Athletic. “But I’m trying to be as focused as possible on the playoffs and just trying to go as far as we can.”

Mobley averaged 18.5 points, 9.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 0.9 steals and 1.6 blocks during the regular season.

“His rebounds (9.3), blocks (1.6) and steals (0.9) were all around his career averages, but don’t be distracted by stagnant numbers in those categories,” The Athletic’s Joe Vardon wrote. “Mobley ranked fourth in the NBA in blocks among players who played at least 65 games, and he was the only player to average at least 1.5 blocks and fewer than two fouls per game. He is just the eighth player in NBA history to average that many blocks on two or fewer fouls per game while also contributing at least 0.8 steals per game.

“Mobley was fifth in the NBA in contested shots (10.4 per game) and seventh in contested 3s (3.2 per game) for a Cavs defense that was the eighth-best overall and third in opponent field goal percentage (.454). They were a much better defensive team when Mobley was on the court (seventh in the league at 111.7 points per 100 possessions allowed) versus when he was on the bench (17th, 114.3 points per 100 possessions allowed).”

The Cavs are up 2-0 against the Miami Heat in the first round of the 2025 playoffs.

Mobley had nine points and seven rebounds in Game 1 and 20 points and six rebounds in Game 2.
