The Cavaliers intend to exercise their $1.9 million team option on forward Lamar Stevens, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Stevens is not necessarily guaranteed the full amount, so bringing him back as a high-energy forward off the bench makes sense for Cleveland.
He appeared in 62 games for the Cavs this past season, starting 25 and averaging 5.3 points and 3.3 rebounds, shooting 45 percent from the field. Stevens also served as a reliable perimeter defender and a guy who made plays that don’t show up on the stat sheet.
Most team options are due on June 29, though the Cavs had to make a call on Stevens on Friday.
Assuming he doesn’t sign an extension, he will be eligible for free agency next summer.
