The Cavaliers intend to sign center Moses Brown to a 10-day contract to help their depth at the position with Jarrett Allen injured, as relayed by Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Brown, 22, is 7-foot-2 and has appeared in 78 total games over three years, spending time with the Trail Blazers, Thunder and Mavericks. He carries NBA career averages of 5.9 points and 5.9 rebounds.
He played 26 games for the Mavs this season, but was waived in February to clear a roster spot after Dallas acquired Spencer Dinwiddie and Davis Bertans from the Wizards (for Kristaps Porzingis).
“Brown has shown to be a strong rebounder, but possesses very limited ball skills and is often slow to rotate defensively,” wrote Rory Maher of Hoops Rumors. “He’s definitely a raw, unfinished product at this stage of his career, but he’s flashed some upside and could develop with time.”
Brown will meet the Cavs (38-27) in Miami in time for their game against the Heat. It is likely they don’t officially sign him until Friday to maximize his 10 days.
Allen suffered a fractured finger on Sunday and his return remains to be determined. Up to this point, coach J.B. Bickerstaff has relied on the likes of Evan Mobley, Lauri Markkanen, Kevin Love and Ed Davis to try to fill the void left by Allen.
