The Cavaliers intend to guarantee forward Lamar Stevens‘ salary of $1.5 million for the remainder of the season, according to JD Shaw of Hoops Rumors.
A league source confirmed the decision with Hoops Wire.
Friday is the day NBA teams must decide whether to guarantee deals for the rest of the year.
For the Cavs, that’s basically a no-brainer with Stevens, who has helped fill in as the team has suffered through an array of injuries and players entering health and safety protocols.
Stevens, 24, is 6-foot-6 and in his second NBA season, both with the Cavs. He is averaging 3.8 points and 2.0 rebounds in 24 games, offering tons of hustle to go with it.
Stevens went undrafted out of Penn State in 2020, appearing in 40 games last year.
The Cavs (21-17) begin a six-game trip Friday vs. the Blazers. They are also expected to get back small forward Cedi Osman and play point guard Rajon Rondo, as both players are now available.
