Former Grizzlies and Kings coach Dave Joerger is joining the Cavaliers as a coaching consultant, per Shams Charania of The Athletic.
Joerger, 49, isn’t likely to have a seat on J.B. Bickerstaff‘s bench, but instead be around at practice, taking in games and offering input.
Along with helping out in Cleveland, Joerger will coach Team USA at the FIBA Americas qualifying tournament in February, Charania added.
Joerger coached the Grizzlies from 2013-16 after spending about a decade in the G League and old USBL. He then coached the Kings from 2016-19, compiling a 245-247 overall record as a head coach.
Most recently, Joerger served as an assistant under Doc Rivers with the 76ers from 2020-23. Rivers was fired after the season, and replaced by former Raptors coach Nick Nurse — who brought in his own assistants.
The Cavs open the season at Brooklyn on Wednesday.
