Cavaliers guard Kevin Pangos is expected to be waived if the team can’t find a trade by Thursday’s deadline, per multiple reports.
Once Pangos is waived, he would sign with Russian power CSKA Moscow, according to Kostas Melayess of Gazzetta.gr.
Hoops Wire has learned the Cavs are floating Pangos as a “fill-in” in multiple trade conversations. Reports have suggested the Cavs are interested in Celtics point guard Dennis Schroder, and Pangos may be an option in such a deal.

Pangos signed a two-year deal with the Cavs prior to the season, with the first year guaranteed. Cleveland used part of the non-taxpayer MLE on Pangos, who was guaranteed about $1.67 million for the 2021-22 season. The second year of the deal pays will pay Pangos $1.75 million.
But he has not found a role with the Cavs, appearing in just 23 games and averaging 1.7 assists. Instead of using Pangos while Darius Garland has been injured, the Cavs turned to two-way guard Brandon Goodwin, who has filled in admirably.
Pangos, 28, has widely been considered one of the best all-around guards in EuroLeague, averaging 13.9 points and 6.7 assists last year with Russian club Zenit.
A native of Canada, Pangos went undrafted after four seasons at Gonzaga in 2015, when he was named West Coast Conference Player of the Year.
