The Celtics are coming off a run to the NBA Finals, and there’s probably no reason for sweeping changes.
Unless you can get Nets star Kevin Durant, that is.
At least, that’s the thinking for the Celtics, who have emerged as a contender in the Durant sweepstakes, with Jaylen Brown being the name floated most.
But if you ask Jayson Tatum, the Celtics are fine as is.
“We got two new pieces (in Malcolm Brogdon and Danilo Gallinari),” Tatum said, via Brian Robb of MassLive. “I love our team.”
Durant requested a trade earlier this month, shortly after Kyrie Irving signed a contract extension. Those two things may or may not be related.
At first, Durant was linked to the Heat and Suns, as those are supposedly his preferred destinations. But for now, neither appears willing to surrender the type of massive haul the Nets are seeking.
Enter the Celtics, who supposedly floated a package of Brown, Derrick White and a future first-round pick.
“I don’t make anything of it,” Tatum said of the rumors. “I just play basketball.”
Of Durant specifically, Tatum added, “I’ve played with him during the Olympics. He’s a great player. That’s not my decision. I love our team. I love the guys that we got. I don’t know if that report is true or not.”
Of Brown, he added, “I don’t believe everything I see on TV. I’ve seen some (expletive) about me that was a lie. You never really know what is true and what’s not true.”
