Celtics owner Bill Chisholm says his focus remains on continuity and winning as he settles into his role as the franchise’s governor.
In an interview with Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe, Chisholm touched on a number of topics, including his relationship with players and staff, the team’s direction and long-term plans.

“I feel extremely welcome,” Chisholm said. “I try to find the right balance of being supportive and visible to them without making them feel like I’m looking over their shoulder. I try to be super available, super positive, and I’ve tried to develop a relationship with all the players, and certainly with [head coach Joe Mazzulla].”
Chisholm praised the organization’s leadership structure, pointing to Mazzulla and president of basketball operations Brad Stevens as key pillars.
“I do not take that for granted,” he said. “It is extraordinary here. I know enough to know this is not normal to have this. I am going to fight and claw and do everything in my power to make sure we keep it going with those guys.”
There has been some outside perception that Boston has been focused on managing costs following a series of moves to dip below the tax line. Chisholm pushed back on that idea.
“I want to win, I want to win desperately,” he said. “I can understand where some short-term decisions might feel like they’re not necessarily headed in that direction, but I put hand on heart and know we’re doing the right things to win.”
Chisholm also addressed the future of TD Garden, indicating the preference is to remain in the current arena if upgrades can continue to enhance the experience.
“My starting point is if we can make it work, we’d love to stay where we are,” he said. “If we can improve the fan experience and the player experience, that’s where we want to end up.”
So yeah, the message is consistent.
Keep the core intact. Stay competitive. And keep building from a position of strength.
