The Boston Celtics and sharpshooting small forward Sam Hauser have agreed to a four-year, $45 million contract extension, agent Jason Glushon told Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Hauser, 26, is 6-foot-8 and averaged 9.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 79 games for the world champions this past season, shooting 44.6% from the field and 42.4% on 3-pointers.
“Adding Hauser’s extension to the Celtics’ 2025-2026 payroll elevates it to a projected $225 million with an additional $210 million luxury tax penalty — highest in the league and over the second-apron for a second consecutive year,’ Wojnarowski wrote.
Hauser was a critical reserve in the Celtics’ first championship since 2008. They have an NBA-best 18 titles and have been to the Finals in two of the past three seasons.
Hauser went undrafted out of Virginia (he spent his first three college seasons at Marquette) in 2021, then signed a two-way deal with Boston. That contract was converted to a standard deal later that same season.
He spent plenty of time with the Maine Celtics of the G League before signing a multiyear deal with the parent club in July 2022.
As an aside, the Celtis also recently signed former Cleveland State forward Tristan Enaruna to an Exhibit 10 contract.
Enuara is 6-foot-8 and was named MVP of the Portsmouth Invitational for college seniors ahead of the NBA Draft.
His college career began at Kansas, before transferring to Iowa State, and then to Cleveland State in 2022.
