The Celtics agreed to a trade that will send guard Dennis Schroder and centers Enes Freedom and Bruno Fernando to the Rockets in exchange for center Daniel Theis, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Houston will waive Freedom, Wojnarowski reported, sending the veteran into free agency. The Rockets also seem likely to buy out Fernando’s contract.
Schroder, 28, was in his first season in Boston after signing a year-deal in free agency. With an expiring contract, it’s hard to know if he will actually suit up for the rebuilding Rockets.
He had drawn interest from the Cavaliers, Bulls and Bucks ahead of the trade deadline, as well as a few others.
In 49 games with the Celtics, Schroder is averaging 14.4 points and 4.2 assists.
Meanwhile, Theis returns to Boston after serving stints with the Bulls and Rockets, and has appeared in 26 games this season, averaging 8.4 points and 5.0 rebounds.
This was one of three trades for the Celtics on deadline day, as they also acquired guard Derrick White from the Spurs (full post), and sent center Bol Bol and guard PJ Dozier to the Magic (full post).
