The Celtics are signing veteran power forward Blake Griffin to a one-year contract, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Griffin, 33, is 6-foot-9 and spent the past year-and-a-half with the Nets. Last season, he averaged 6.4 points and 4.1 rebounds in 54 games. It marked the first time in his career he averaged less than 10.0 points.
The contract is fully guaranteed, per Wojnarowski. Presumably, it will be for the veteran’s minimum, given the timing of the arrangement.
Griffin could help fill a need, as the Celtics were on the lookout for frontcourt help following the injuries to Robert Williams and Danilo Gallinari. How much Griffin has left in the tank, though, remains to be seen.
The No. 1 overall pick in 2009, Griffin has also spent time with the Clippers and Pistons. He averaged 15.5 points and 4.7 rebounds in 2019-20 with Detroit.
