Former Bucks assistant Charles Lee is on his way to becoming the top assistant under Joe Mazzulla with the Celtics, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Lee, 38, has been considered a top candidate for head-coaching vacancies across the league over the past several seasons but has yet to land such a gig. He was reportedly a candidate for the Raptors’ vacancy this offseason alone and a finalist for the Pistons’ job.
Lee has been an assistant under Mike Budenholzer since 2014, first with the Hawks and then with the Bucks, starting in 2018. Milwaukee won the championship in 2019.
Lee was also reportedly a candidate for the Bucks’ vacancy that eventually went to Adrian Griffin. (Related post.)
Lee also becomes the second assistant added to Mazzulla’s coaching staff this season, joining former 76ers assistant Sam Cassell. (Full post.)
