Donovan Mitchell Reportedly Grew Frustrated With Some Cavs’ Lack Of Maturity, Preparation

The Cavaliers’ season has reached an end, with injuries and inconsistencies seemingly being what drug them down after the NBA All-Star break.Donovan Mitchell, Cleveland Cavaliers, NBA

And not all of it was their fault. But some of it was — and their best player reportedly noticed.

Per Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com, no less than star guard Donovan Mitchell “grew frustrated with some teammates’ lack of maturity, focus, playoff-level readiness and a willingness to listen” during this past season.

Fedor is the one Cleveland reporter who is around the team every day — practice, locker room, home, road, you name it. So he would see and know what Mitchell is saying and indicating.

Granted, players get frustrated with teammates all the time. But Mitchell is generally his teammates’ biggest cheerleader. It is widely believed that it takes work to get him irritated.

Anyway, the good news for the Cavs and their fans is that many around the NBA suspect Mitchell will sign a maximum contract extension with the team this summer. That doesn’t mean it’s a done deal — it just means that those whose job it is to have these conversations believe Mitchell is staying in Cleveland.

A lot of people from outside Cleveland don’t want that to be the case, because let’s face it, Mitchell is dazzling and a winner. He would be an immediate impact player anywhere. Social media (and this very website) are abuzz with rumors that Mitchell is on the way out.

But that’s all they are — rumors.

As for the Cavs overall, yes, some changes will certainly be on the way. They are for every team in an offseason. One report suggested that Darius Garland‘s agent will seek a trade if Mitchell signs an extension. The Cavs would undoubtedly welcome that scenario. They might want to keep Garland, but they want to keep Mitchell more.
