Clippers’ Kawhi Leonard Targeting Jan. 4 For Season Debut

The Los Angeles Clippers are eyeing next Saturday, January 4, for the return of star forward Kawhi Leonard, per Law Murray of The Athletic.Kawhi Leonard, Clippers, NBA

Leonard, who battled inflammation in his right knee last season, underwent a procedure during the offseason and continued his rehab through the fall. He has been out all of this year so far.

While the Clippers have performed admirably without him, sitting at 17-13 and in the thick of the playoff race, Leonard’s presence could elevate them further.

Leonard isn’t traveling with the team on their current three-game road trip, which begins in New Orleans and concludes next Thursday in Oklahoma City. However, the two-time NBA champion participated in a 5-on-5 scrimmage on Thursday and will join the San Diego Clippers in the G League for additional practice while the NBA team is away.

All signs point toward him being ready for the Clippers’ first home game of 2025 against the Atlanta Hawks.

That said, there are still hurdles to clear before Leonard takes the court, but assuming all goes well over the next week, it looks increasingly likely that he will be back in action next Saturday.

If he’s able to stay healthy, Leonard could be a game-changer for the Clippers, who have already proven to be a decent squad without him. Last season, Leonard was an All-NBA performer, averaging 23.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 3.6 assists, showing he still has plenty of gas left in the tank.
