Clippers forward Nic Batum intends to decline the $3.3 million option on his contract and enter free agency, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
While Batum is opting out, a return to the Clippers on a new deal seems likely, with Wojnarowski reporting the sides share a “mutual interest” in his return.
Batum, 33, averaged 8.3 points and 4.3 rebounds in 59 games this past season, his second with the Clippers. He spent time with the Hornets and Trail Blazers before that.
Originally drafted by the Rockets with the No. 25 overall pick in 2008, Batum has been a solid shooter and defender alongside Kawhi Leonard (when healthy) and Paul George.
“Batum has had a career resurgence over the last two years in LA,” RealGM wrote. “Since joining the Clippers, the veteran wing has averaged 8.2 points and 4.5 rebounds, while putting up 46/40/76 shooting splits.”
