The Clippers will be without rookie point Jason Preston to start the season after Preston underwent foot surgery Thursday in Los Angeles, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Preston, 22, is 6-foot-4 and was drafted out of Ohio in the second round (No. 33 overall) this past summer. He was originally drafted by the Magic, then immediately traded to the Clippers.
Wojnarowski reported that Preston is “expected to miss a significant part of the season” with the injury.
The Clippers confirmed the news in a press release, saying Preston will miss “extended” time.
He was likely to play a small role in veteran Clippers backcourt that includes Reggie Jackson, Eric Bledsoe, Terance Mann and Luke Kennard.
Preston initially suffered the injury during a group workout in late September.
“Clippers felt he’d really made strides since leaving summer league,” wrote Andrew Greif of the LA Times. “He watched the first two preseason games in a walking boot.”
