Sindarius Thornwell, the former Clippers guard and 2017 South Carolina Final Four hero, was arrested Tuesday on charges of second-degree domestic violence and unlawful conduct toward a child, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

Thornwell, 30, was booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center and later released on a $25,000 personal recognizance bond, his attorney Seth Rose confirmed to The State. Rose issued a statement declaring Thornwell’s innocence and urged the public to “withhold judgment until this is resolved in a court of law.”

Drafted by the Bucks with the 48th pick in 2017, Thornwell instead started his NBA career with the Clippers and played four seasons in the league, also spending time with the Pelicans and Magic. His last NBA appearance came in 2020-21. He averaged 2.5 points per game across 160 career outings.

Thornwell has since played overseas in Germany, Turkey, Poland, and most recently China with the Xinjiang Flying Tigers, where he appeared earlier this year.

He briefly signed with the Cavaliers in 2019 but was waived before the season.

The arrest marks a troubling turn for a player once celebrated for leading South Carolina on its improbable March Madness run.
