Cavs’ Darius Garland: ‘We’re Trying To Bring Another Championship Back To The City’

The Cavaliers are no strangers to championship aspirations, and Darius Garland made it clear that this young core is determined to write its own chapter in Cleveland’s basketball history.

In an interview with Scott Van Pelt, Garland emphasized the importance of establishing a new identity for the franchise, built around a mix of homegrown talent and key acquisitions.

“It means a lot to us. Just a new wave around the city,” Garland said. “Some young guys coming up through the draft and then one major trade with Don [Donovan Mitchell]. We’re trying to put on for this city. We’re trying to bring another championship back.”

The Cavaliers, currently the top team in the Eastern Conference standings-wise, have shown they are more than just a playoff contender — they have real title aspirations. Garland pointed to the team’s chemistry, coaching, and hunger as key factors driving their pursuit of a championship.

“The city deserves it,” he said. “There are some really diehard fans. They root for us through the bad times, and even now through the good times. They’re always with us, so we’re hungry for a championship.”

With a talented roster featuring Garland, Mitchell, Evan Mobley, and Jarrett Allen, as well as new addition De’Andre Hunter and others — not to mention the coaching of Kenny Atkinson — it’s safe to say Cleveland is locked in on making a deep playoff push.

The goal is clear: competing in June and bringing another banner to The Land. Just ask Garland.
