The San Antonio Spurs have locked up De’Aaron Fox for the long haul, as relayed by NBA insider Shams Charania of ESPN.
Fox and San Antonio have agreed to a four-year maximum-salary extension that will begin in 2026, agent Rich Paul told Charania. The deal is projected to be worth between $222.4 million and $228.6 million, depending on where the salary cap lands next summer. The contract will start at 30 percent of the 2026–27 cap and run through the 2029–30 season.
Fox will make just over $37 million in 2025–26 before the new deal kicks in.
He played only 17 games with the Spurs last season after being acquired from the Sacramento Kings and later undergoing season-ending surgery in March to repair tendon damage in his left pinkie. The injury occurred in training camp and lingered throughout the season before Fox finally opted for surgery.
When he did suit up, Fox averaged 19.7 points and 6.8 assists for San Antonio. In total, across 62 combined games with the Spurs and Kings, he averaged 23.5 points, 6.3 assists and 4.8 rebounds.
He also dropped 60 points in a November game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, setting a Kings franchise record and joining Nikola Jokic as the only players to reach the 60-point mark last season.
Fox is one of just two players to average at least 20 points, five assists and one steal in each of the past six seasons, alongside Luka Doncic. Since entering the league in 2017, only Fox, James Harden, Russell Westbrook and Jokic have tallied at least 10,000 points, 3,000 assists and 700 steals.
He now becomes part of a Spurs core that includes back-to-back Rookies of the Year in Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle, as well as No. 2 overall pick Dylan Harper.
Fox and Wembanyama played just five games together last season but are expected to be the foundation of a group that San Antonio hopes can contend for years to come.
