Delon Wright Agrees To Buyout With Wizards, Will Sign With Heat

According to NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Delon Wright has agreed to a contract buyout with the Washington Wizards.

Wright plans to sign with the Miami Heat. 

Wright, 31, is averaging 4.1 points, 1.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.2 blocks this season while shooting 39.3% from the field, 36.8% from beyond the arc and 82.8% from the free-throw line. He has a plus-minus of -49.

The Heat are 30-25 on the season. They are in seventh place in the Eastern Conference standings. Meanwhile, the Wizards are only 9-45. They have the second-worst record in the East. 

Hall of Famer Pat Riley traded Kyle Lowry to the Charlotte Hornets for Terry Rozier, who suffered a sprained right knee against the Boston Celtics on February 11. According to NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, Rozier will be evaluated week-to-week.

Wright has career averages of 7.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.4 blocks with the Toronto Raptors, Memphis Grizzlies, Dallas Mavericks, Detroit Pistons, Sacramento Kings, Atlanta Hawks and Wizards. His older brother, Dorell Wright, played in 211 games with the Heat. 

Miami lost to the Denver Nuggets in the 2023 NBA Finals in five games. Erik Spoelstra’s club is 27th in the league in points per game (110.6) and fourth in points per game allowed (110.4).

The Heat won their last two games before the All-Star break. They beat the Milwaukee Bucks and Philadelphia 76ers. Miami went 4-1 over its last five games to close the first half of the season.
